Charles K. Whitehead

Charles K. Whitehead is the Myron C. Taylor Alumni Professor of Business Law at Cornell Law School and the Founding Director of the Law, Technology and Entre­pre­neurship program at Cornell Tech.

Professor Whitehead specializes in the law relating to business organizations, capital markets, financial institutions, mergers and acqui­sitions, and complex transactions.  He was a Research Fellow at Columbia Law School before joining the Boston University School of Law faculty in 2006 and the Cornell Law School faculty in 2009.

Professor Whitehead is co-author of one of the leading Securities Regulation casebooks in the United States.  He has published extensively, including in the Columbia Law Review, the Georgetown Law Journal, the Cornell Law Review, the Boston University Law Review, the Ohio State Law Journal, the Journal of Corporation Law, the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law, and the Harvard Business Law Review.

Professor Whitehead was the first foreign expert visiting professor at Peking University Law School and a Research Fellow in the Center for Financial Studies at Goethe University.  He is the only American to receive an honorary doctor’s degree from Yaroslav Mudriy National Law University in Ukraine.

Before entering academia, Professor Whitehead held senior legal and business positions in the global financial services industry, practicing in New York and Tokyo, including as a Managing Director of Nomura Securities International, Salomon Brothers, and Citigroup.  He was the first Citigroup Country Officer for Japan, the head of Citigroup’s Corporate Bank in Japan, and the Chief Operating Officer of its invest­ment bank in Japan.

In Ukraine, Professor Whitehead is founder of eō Business Incubators, Ukraine’s premier technology incubation program.  He is also Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Startup Fund (founded by Ukraine’s Ministry of Finance), which provides grants to early-stage technology businesses.

Professor Whitehead is a member of the American Law Institute and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.  He was a law clerk to the Hon. Ellsworth A. Van Graafeiland, U.S. Court of Appeals (2nd Circuit), and is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a James Kent Scholar, and Cornell University, magna cum laude.
