Alexander Akhiezer

Alex Akhiezer’s practice focuses on emergent technologies that require a multidisciplinary approach. He works with leading universities, startup companies, venture capital investors, and public companies on technology commercialization, including patent protection and licensing matters as well as patent life cycle management, IP portfolio development and strategies. Alex participates in corporate acquisitions, drafting and negotiating portfolio license agreements, and preparation of opinions to counsel on matters of infringement and validity.

Alex received a degree in Theoretical Physics from Kharkiv National University. In 1992 he moved to the United States, where he received a second BA degree at New York University in Chemistry (1996), followed by a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Physical and Computational Chemistry (2001). In 2007 Alex received a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston.

Since 2001 Alex works in legal industry, specializing in Intellectual Property, primarily patent law. He is a partner at Foley Hoag LLP, a prominent Boston-based general practice firm. His own practice concentrates on assisting start-up companies with developing their IP portfolios.

The notable awards include being a recipient of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans (1999) and being listed by “The Best Lawyers in America” (a peer-reviewed publication and rating company) in 2023.
