This lecture will introduce a field that has seen much growth in the recent decades and is a very interesting example of how past has been and is reflected by different societies. Medievalism is both an academic study of how in the past and now (especially in the 19th, 20th and 21st century) different European and non-European societies creatively used ideas, athletics, concept from the Middle Ages to express various contemporary issues, identities within “high culture” and within popular culture. It continues to resonate very strongly within current popular culture (especially games and film) and has frequent political dimensions.
