Genome assembly is foundational for modern biology. Genomic information provides insights into an organism’s evolutionary history, genetic traits and can be used to identify and study the genetic basis of diseases, leading to improved diagnosis and treatment. I will talk about how how we have adapted Hi-C, a method originally developed to study how the human genome folds in 3D to democratize genome assembly across the tree of life and launch the DNA Zoo, a consortium dedicated to generating and openly sharing high quality genome assemblies with the scientific and conservation communities
